The Artist

The Artist

(Chrisolix)
Working with metal is my key to the fountain of youth, my way down the rabbit hole, my looking glass. From the beginning, the process of transforming basic metal into art has struck me as magical. Over time, that magical process has had its way with me, leading me from hobby to art. Silversmithing fills me with a sense of accomplishment and integrity, and has proven a most amenable vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality. I fondly recall my grandfather, a jewelry designer and watchmaker in my native Belgium. Now, in my turn as a silversmith, the annealing process, fusion of several pieces, soldering, hammering, have become a true passion for me. Though I work quite deliberately trying to consciously employ both traditional and innovative techniques, my unconscious is the undisputed project manager. Studying astrophysics at Yale, I am inspired by the wonderful celestial mechanics of the Universe and as a synesthete, by the intricately defined geometrical shapes of what I taste...
WHERE I CREATE....

WHERE I CREATE....

(DesignsByStephanie)
I have always found it interesting to see where people create. So, I am sharing where my creating takes place. I have included some photos of me and my family as well. It's always nice to put a face with the name!

My boys call my workspace the "Bead Room". My dear husband painted the room for me and helped set up my work area. I even set up a place for my boys to do their own "creating". It was imperative for them to have a place to call their own. This ensures minimal "sticky fingers" on my stuff! Though, they still can't resist!

**I assure you, my room does NOT always look this neat!**
I mess up, clean up to reqroup, then mess it up again & again. ;)

(Chrisolix)
This necklace was made in memory of Lisa Marie Tribanas, of the Zinc Restaurant in New Haven.
It celebrates and embraces Lisa's wonderful Love of Life and Hope that she continues to instill in people & the world.
It was showcased and auctioned off during the Cocktail Reception/Celebra... of Life at Zinc, on Sunday May 7 and raised $250 for the Scholarship Fund in Lisa's name.
It will assist a third-year student in Media Studies at Southern Connecticut State University.

(Fusion)
Vintage stamps and postmarks make for an interesting time-travel adventure into our culture's past values; they also make for great found-object components of Fusion stained glass pendants.

These earrings features light blue topaz gemstone focal beads, surrounded by light blue and clear seed beads. The earrings were made using bead embroidery and stitching techniques. I used a gray felted material on the backs of the earrings. The earwires are sterling silver. The earrings measure 1 ½" (3.8cm) long and 1 1/4" (3cm) wide.

LaSil ...........Metal in Collaboration with Glass

LaSil ...........Metal in Collaboration with Glass

(LaSil)
The experience of glass flameworking has changed the way i perceive jewelry. Working with glass has given the inspiration to mix it with metal to achieve a connection between the materials. Design is critical in this attempt to create harmony. The mixture of these two elements allow for the exploration of new territory. This journey is always evolving within connection methods and design. The challenge of mixed media gives me inspiration to think in new ways.
